The sites numerous teacher resources allow teachers to buy/sell teaching supplies, exchange thoughts and ideas, share lesson plans and teacher worksheets, and expand their network of friends within an exclusive social community built with teachers in mind.
Q: What is the File Cabinet?
A: The Teachers Recess File Cabinet is one of the best teacher resources on the web. It allows teachers to share lesson plans and teacher worksheets for free with each other. We feel the sharing of all these files will only help teachers because they get to see so many different teaching styles and ideas. Unlike most teacher websites that offer lesson plans, the Teachers Recess File Cabinet is free to all members. Our search system allows teachers to find science lesson plans, math lesson plans, language arts lesson plans, social studies, foreign language lesson plans, elementary lesson plans, middle school lesson plans, high school lesson plans, etc.
Q: What is the Teacher Xchange?
A: The Teacher Xchange is a place for teachers to buy/sell classroom supplies, classroom furniture, books, teaching software, technology supplies, and anything else that be used by a teacher at school or in their everyday lives. We feel that this is a great teacher resource because in most cases teachers are not given enough financial support to buy the things they feel are necessary to provide a learning environment for their students to excel. This will be a great resource for new and experienced teachers. New teachers can buy certain items they need at a discount, while experienced teachers could sell certain things they may not use anymore. The Teacher Xchange is the best buy/sell teacher resource on the Internet.
Q: What is the Bulletin Board?
A: The Bulletin Board is a place for Teachers Recess members to submit questions or topics for discussion. The Bulletin Board was created so teachers can get feedback on their thoughts and ideas from colleagues within the teaching community. In addition to having the ability to communicate and share information, the Bulletin Board can also be used for posting events, job listings, blogs, and any questions or comments members might have.
Q: What is the Teacher Community?
A: The Teacher Community is a social network of teachers. As a member of the community one can make friends, post information, upload photos, and have access to the Teacher Xchange, the File Cabinet, the Bulletin board, and the Teacher's Lounge. This is the first free teacher social network that offers all the aforementioned teacher resources. It is our hope that Teachers Recess becomes the first place on the Internet a teacher goes when they are looking for help. With a large social network of friends in the Teacher Community teaching will become a lot easier.
Q: What is the Teacher's Lounge?
A: The Teacher's Lounge is a teacher resource with live chat rooms that allow teachers to interact in real time. This goal of this feature is to have 24-hour access to live dialogue with other teachers all around the world. Sometimes questions or concerns are too complex for Bulletin Board posts and require conversation; that is what we designed the Teacher's Lounge is for.
File Cabinet
The file cabinet is designed to make sharing teacher lesson plans and teacher worksheet as easy as possible. Teacher Recess members do not have to be computer experts to use the file cabinet.
Q: How do I upload a file?
A: Uploading lesson plans and worksheets requires a few simple steps. Go to the main file cabinet page and click the "File Upload" tab at the top. Fill in the description forms it requires, browse your computer for the file you wish to upload, write a brief description/summary about your file, and click the upload button.
Q: How do I search for the file I am looking for?
A: There are several ways for members to search for certain files they wish to download. Along the left hand side of the file cabinet home page is a list of grades and subjects. The member can click on the grade or subject they are looking for and all of the lesson plans or worksheets that match the description will show up. At the top of the file cabinet there is a more advanced search method. It allows the member to narrow their search to exactly what they are looking for. Lets say you wish to look for an 8th grade Algebra lesson plan to use in math class. Select the file type, grade and subject that match your search. When you select math another field will appear, which will allow you to select which type of math. In this case you would click algebra. Once again, all files that meet the search criteria will appear. You also have the option of typing words that you want to be in the title of the file.
Q: How do I download a file?
A: Downloading lesson plans and worksheets is as simple as uploading. All you have to do is find the file you wish to download, click the file name, and on the next page click the "Download Now" icon in the upper right corner of the page. It is important to make sure the file type you are downloading is compatible with your computer.
Q: Can I edit or remove a file?
A: It is very simple to edit or remove a lesson plan or worksheet from the file cabinet. Click on "Edit Profile" on the secondary navigation bar. Then choose the "file cabinet" button along the left panel. You can then choose to edit or delete the file of your choice.
Teacher Xchange
Using the Teacher Xchange does not require a lot of computer skill. Buying and Selling classroom materials, classroom technology, books, etc. is a few clicks away.
Q: How do I sell an item?
A: Once you know which item you wish to sell, go to the Teacher Xchange home page and click the "Sell" button at the top of the page. Select a title, category, and price (price includes shipping). Then choose your preferred method of payment, PayPal or Pick Up Only. If you select PayPal you must enter your PayPal ID in the next form. Write a brief description and browse your computer for a picture of your item. Click the "Submit" button and your item is now for sale. Remember: This is not an auction so name the price you are looking for.
Q: How do I buy an item?
A: Go to the Teacher Xchange home page. Browse for the item you wish to purchase. Click on that item. It then takes you to the page where you have the option to click the "Buy Now" button. If paying by PayPal it takes you to the PayPal checkout page. If pick up only it is your responsibility to contact the seller and make arrangements for pick up.
Q: Can I edit an item or remove it from the Teacher Xchange?
A: Editing or removing an item is very simple. Click on the "Edit Profile" button along the secondary navigation bar at the top. Then select the "Teacher Xchange Posts" button along the left panel. On that page it gives you the option to "Edit Post" for all the items you currently have posted.
Bulletin Board
Q: How do I post a comment or question?
A: The bulletin board is another teacher resource that is very easy to use. To create a post, go to the Bulletin Board home page and click the sticky note that says, "Create a Post", title your post, select a grade and subject, and write whatever is on your mind. Of course, all posts must be appropriate and professional.
Q: Can I reply to a post?
A: It is our hope that Bulletin Board posts spark deep conversation and help teachers with whatever question or concern they may have. To reply to a post, click on the title of the post and type your reply.
Blogs
We created the Teacher Blogs section for members to post their own continuous Blog. Teachers can post entries whenever they want about any subject they want. It is a great way to reflect on your day and for other teachers to read about similar experiences they may have.
Q: What is the difference between Blogs and the Bulletin Board?
A: The Teacher Blog is meant to be a journal that is published for members to read and the Bulletin Board is meant to be a forum for discussions between all the members.
Teacher's Pet
The Teacher's Pet is a fun program we designed for members to upload pictures of their favorite pets. People can view your pets and leave comments.
Q: How do I upload a pet?
A: Once you are logged into your account, go to the Teacher's Pet main page and click the "Upload Your Pet Now!" button. Simply fill in the details and upload your pet's picture.

The Teacher News section is the part of the teacher social network developed specifically to give current events and news in the education industry.
Q: Can I post a news link?
A: As a member you cannot post a news link, but you can email us at info@teachersrecess.com with the link and after we approve the article we will post it. |
